Chennai: Actress' ex-boyfriend sets self ablaze, dies
Chennai: An ex-boyfriend of a popular TV serial actress committed suicide by immolating himself on Monday, just two days after the actress complained to police that she was being harassed by him.
Police said Nilani (34) is a resident of Virugambakkam, and a popular TV serial actress and a model. According to sources, on Saturday, Nilani said Mylapore police that she had been in a relationship with Gandhi Lakshmi Kumar of Tiruvannamalai for more than three years. The two had difference of opinion after which they parted ways.
She also told that he had been forcing her to marry him even after she clarified that she did not have any intention. Police sources said, Kumar dropped by her workplace frequently. Two days back the man contacted her at a house on Mundakakanniamman Kovil Street where a shoot was underway.
She accused him of abusing her using filthy language. Meanwhile, last week, Mylapore police called them both to the police station where they reportedly had engaged in a heated argument.
Then they held talks and the actress later withdrew the complaint, said an investigation officer. Following this, Gandhi Lalith Kumar had doused himself with petrol and set himself on fire on Raja Mannar Salai in K.K Nagar on Monday morning.
He was rushed to Kilpauk government hospital for treatment. But he succumbed to his injuries without responding to medical interventions. K.K Nagar police have registered a case and are further investigating.
