Minor, youth held for girl's suicide in Mailardevpally

Gayatri's mother filed a complaint alleging abetment to suicide.

Hyderabad: A 17-year-old boy and a 20-year-old youth were arrested on Saturday in connection with the suicide of a Class X student in Mailardevpally. Gayatri Yadav, 15, hanged herself when her mother was busy with household work on Wednesday. Police said that her mother Pushpa had asked her not to get into a relationship since she was a minor and the boy was from the same neighbourhood. Gayatri’s mother filed a complaint alleging abetment to suicide.

One of the arrested persons was identified as Syed Akbar, 20. “Gayatri was caught talking on the phone twice by her mother on Tuesday night and Wednesday morning. Her mother warned her not to speak to the boy. Later, she was again found talking on the phone and her mother became angry and scolded her again,” said a police official. A case of abetment to suicide and under the Criminal Amendment Act 2013 was registered.

Akbar was in a relationship with Gayatri but broke up and after that the 17-year-old boy started forcing her to accept his proposal. The 17-year-old boy was produced before the juvenile board. Akbar was produced in court and remanded to custody by the judge.
