Brazilian held with Rs 10 crore cocaine
Chennai: Sleuths of Narcotic Control Bureau on Friday arrested a Brazilian national for carrying 3.6 kg of cocaine worth Rs 10 crore in the illegal market.
The arrested person was identified as Jailson Dasilva, 43.
This is the second time a Latin American being arrested in Chennai within a gap of 15 months. Sleuths say the presence of these persons indicate that Latin American drug lords are eyeing Indian market seriously.
In this case, NCB sleuths found Jailson in a lodge in Pallavaram. “He was operating for a gang in Sao Polo in Brazil. He was traveling from Rio to Chennai via Dubai. Though he was carrying a tourist visa, which is valid till February next year, he was planning to leave the country by next weekend,” said Prem Anand Sinha, director, NCB, Chennai zone.
The seized cocaine was sandwiched on both sides of outer cover of four notebooks and seven packets of cocaine were kept in between seven children's book.
The cocaine he was carrying was pure in form and directly procured from the production belt in South America. He was planning to distribute the same in cities in other states as well.
In June last year, NCB had arrested Edwin Enrique, a Columbian national with 2.35 kg of cocaine from Chennai airport. He was operating for a dreaded drug cartel of Bogota, the capital city of Colombia. He was carrying a fake letter of All India Boxing Association, which seems to have helped in to procure a visa to visit India.
Last year, a Colombian national too had arrived from Rio. While Jailson was carrying notebooks stuffed with drug, Enrique was carrying 219 marker pens filled with the 2.35 kg of cocaine when sleuths picked him from Chennai international terminal.
