Warangal: Five third year CSE students of Vaagdevi Engineering College drowned in the Dharmasagar Lake on Saturday. As the college had declared a holiday on Saturday on account of Hyderabad Liberation Day, a group of students visited the lake for a picnic. Locals said one of the students accidentally slipped into the water while taking a selfie. Trying to save her five others fell into the water. One girl, Prathyusha, was saved by the public but the others drowned. Dharmasagar CI Raji Reddy said the bodies of Sravya Reddy, 18, Polineni Vinuthna, 18, Karne Shivasai, 19, and Polineni Shivasaikrishna, 20, were recovered. The search for Srinidhi’s, 19, is still going on. The parents of the students broke down after seeing the bodies. The police had issued warnings not to go for swimming in the tank. They had also put up warning boards near the lake.
