Chennai: To stop wife flying abroad, man tries hoax calls, held
Chennai: A 29-year-old man was arrested by the Delhi police on Saturday for making multiple calls last week to the control room, alleging that a bomb was planted at the Chennai Airport. As follow up, a red alert was then sounded at the Chennai airport, but no bomb was found.
The Delhi international control room on August 8 received a call from an unknown person claiming that a woman passenger named Zamina, on a flight from Chennai bound to Saudi Arabia, was carrying an explosive.
Police said the man introduced himself as Nazruddin of Tamil Nadu, and said that Zamina was a suicide bomber (‘Fidayeen’). However, the call turned out to be a hoax and a criminal complaint registered against the caller in Gurugram.
The accused was arrested on Saturday from Bawana locality by Delhi police. Tweeting details of the arrest, Delhi police said the accused Nasiruddin, was married to Zamina, whom he claimed to be a ‘Fidayeen’ (suicide bomber).
The tweet said the accused owned a bag manufacturing unit in Chennai and had married his employee who was now planning to leave India to work in the Gulf.
Since his attempts to prevent his wife from going abroad failed, he dialed up Delhi airport control room, with a false story that his wife was carrying a bomb, so that she will be detained at the airport, and not be able to board the plane.
