Thiruvananthapuram: Man climbs atop mobile tower, threatens suicide

Shaji's wife and three children were waiting on the road below the tower.

Thiruvananthapuram: A man who climbed on top of a mobile tower on Wednesday, threatened to commit suicide if police did not take action against those who were behind the suicide of his daughter.

The man identified as Kollam native Shaji who worked as a driver in the Soil Conservation department made the suicide threat from the top of the mobile tower near Sree Moolam Club at Vazhuthacaud at around 11am.

The second daughter of Shaji who has four children, committed suicide in January. Mr Shaji had given complaints to the police and his office authorities, alleging that the harassment from some persons in the office were responsible for his daughter's death. However, no action was taken against them even months after the complaints were submitted.

Though Museum police and Firemen from Chenkachoola reached the spot, Shaji did not relent and said that he would come down only if action was taken against persons responsible for his daughter's death.

Shaji, however, finally climbed down after police officials informed him that action would be taken against persons mentioned in the complaint.

Shaji's wife and three children were waiting on the road below the tower. Traffic on the road was disrupted in the area.
