Chennai man kills infant daughter
Chennai: Angry over his wife for giving birth only to girl children, a man allegedly killed his 3-month-old third daughter by flinging the child against a wall on Tuesday afternoon in his house at Gummidipoondi in neighbouring Thiruvallur district.
According to the police, G Damodaran (45), a daily wage worker of Amritamangalam village, after quarrelling with his wife Ambika killed the infant after she refused to carry out his suggestion of killing the girl or sending the infant, Jyothilakshmi, to an orphanage. The couple already have two elder daughters aged 11 and 8.
“At first he started hitting the infant with a tiffin box. When the mother went to protect the child, he snatched the infant and flung it against the wall killing the girl on the spot," police said. The incident happened after a quarrel took place when the family was having lunch on Tuesday and in front of the couple's first daughter Anupriya, 11, who had returned home from school early as she was ill. Police said Damodaran had been quarrelling with his wife over the issue since she delivered the girl child three months back. Though Damodaran disappeared from the scene on Tuesday itself, cops from Kavarapettai police traced and arrested him on Wednesday evening.
