Gang posing as DVAC sleuths robs Keralites of Rs 13 lakh in Tamil Nadu

Coimbatore: A five-member gang, posing as anti-corruption officials, robbed two persons from Kerala of Rs 13 lakh, police said Thursday. The gang stopped the car in which Abhinesh and Naushad from Thalassery had come here Wednesday to buy gold ornaments and introduced themselves as officials from the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption on inspection.

After taking the money from the two, the gang told them that they can collect it after producing proper, relevant documents, the police said

Then, Abhinesh and Naushad went to the nearest police station and narrated the incident, only then did they realise they had beencheated.

A case has been registered and a probe begun by monitoring CCTV footage of the crime scene to identify the culprits, the police said.
