Hyderabad: A 22-year-old woman suffered severe burns after her former boyfriend attacked her with acid in Petbasheerabad on Monday night.
The woman, Kabeera Begum, was admitted in a private hospital and her condition is said to be critical.
Police said Ms Kabeera Begum, a resident of Dattatr-eyanagar, was working as a helper in a ceiling fan manufacturing company in Subash-nagar. The suspect Pradeep, a resident of Subashnagar, was her colleague.
Police said they fell in love but Ms Kabeera Begum had begun keeping her distance of late. Pradeep wanted to continue the relationship.
The company was closed on Monday for Bonalu, and the victim was at home. Police said that Pradeep called her out to talk. When she came out, they began arguing.
Pradeep took out an acid bottle from his pocket and emptied it on Kabeera. Hearing her screams for help, her family rushed out and found her collapsed on the ground.
They rushed her to a private hospital for treatment where her condition was stated to be critical. Police registered a case and launched a hunt for Pradeep who fled from the spot.
