Hyderabad: Fake cop held for cheating

He introduced himself as a police official and promised to get the youth a good job.

Hyderabad: A man pretending to be a cop allegedly cheated a job aspirant to the tune of Rs 10 lakh at Jubilee Hills. He promised government jobs and double bedroom houses and collected money. The victim who realised he was cheated approached the police. Cops are verifying if there are other victims too.

According to the police, a youngster identified as K. Dhruva, 24, a resident of Jubilee Hills finished his studies and looking for a job. During this time, his father who works for Sitara Hotel at Punjagutta came in contact with one Prabhakar Reddy who introduced himself as an assistant sub-inspector of police (crime) from Nampally. They soon became friends and during one of their conversations, Dhruva’s unemployment issue came up and Prabhakar promised to help claiming he had good contacts.

“He promised him a clerk post in agriculture department. Believing him Dhruva paid Rs 6 lakh. Later, Prabhakar also promised them a double bedroom house sanctioned by the state government. The victim paid another Rs 5 lakh for the house to be registered on his mother’s name.” said an official from Jubilee Hills PS.

Nothing as promised by Prabhakar worked even after a long time. Dhruva realised he was duped and approached the police and lodged a complaint.

Based on his complaint, a case for cheating and other offences was booked under the IPC and being investigated. A manhunt has been launched to nab Prabhakar. Officials are also investigating if there are more victims.
