Visakhapatnam: Punters in Vizag and parts of Andhra Pradesh are betting big on India to lift the ICC Champions Trophy after losing heavily on England in the first semi-final. Gamblers lost big time during the first semi-final between Pakistan and England by betting on England to proceed to the final.
As after a gap of nearly a decade, India and Pakistan are meeting on ICC tournament final on Sunday, the cops are suspecting that punters from parts of state have reached Vizag region to test their luck starting with ball-to-ball and match-to-match basis to mint money and the betting amount will crossed over Rs 100 crore.
The last time, India had defeated all-time rivals Pakistan in Twenty-20 World Cup in South Africa, under M.S. Dhoni’s captaincy, in 2007.
Having lost a lot of money in the first semi-finals, gamblers are now pulling up their socks and hoping that India will lift the Champions Trophy and help them recover their betting investments, in part if not wholly.
Some punters, on condition of anonymity, said India are the favourites in the final match while Pakistan are the underdogs, as per betting organisers.
