Kerala rape and murder case: Jisha's father seeks CBI probe
KOCHI: K.V. Pappu, father of Jisha, has sought a CBI probe into the case as he expressed doubts on the police version blaming personal enmity of the Assamese native arrested in connection with the case as the cause of the crime. Speaking to reporters on Friday, Mr. Pappu said he has lost faith in Kerala police and sought a CBI probe as early as possible in the case.
“If the government is not ready to hand over the case to CBI, I will approach the High Court demanding such a probe”, he said. “I don’t think the personal enmity of Ameerul Islam, the Assamese native arrested in connection with the case, is the reason behind the killing as claimed by the police”, he said.
Alleging a nexus between the Congress and CPM to save the actual culprits, he said the murderer has been nabbed, but those instrumental for using him for committing the crime remain at large. Stating that he also lost confidence in Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, Mr. Pappu said the Chief Minister has failed to take any action against the police officials involved in destroying the evidence despite making a personal appeal during a meeting on June 8.
Mr. Pappu said that police needed to provide an explanation on issues such as the weapon used for killing Jisha. Earlier, it was claimed that an iron road was used but now they say it is a knife. He also said the police should explain the number of complaints filed at Kuruppampady police station regarding threats to Jisha’s life. Mr. Pappu was accompanied by BJP leader P.M. Velayudhan.
