Visakhapatnam: A special court dealing with POCSO cases convicted a 33-year-old man to three year jail term on charges of sexually abusing a 10-year-old girl. The accused was identified as Y. Kranti.
According to the prosecution, the minor girl was playing with her friends and cycling in Gandhinagar Police Colony near NAD Kotha Road when Kranti came to her and touched her private parts. Later, he tried to drag her to the railway track, girl raised an alarm. One Joseph from the same locality rescued the girl but Kranti fled from the spot. This incident took place on 26 October 2020. The girl’s mother lodged a complaint at Airport Police Station the following day.
The police arrested the accused a few days later. He hailed from East Godavari and has been living in Butchirajupalem, close to the girl’s house.
After the trial was concluded, the judge awarded the accused three years rigorous imprisonment and slapped a fine of Rs 100.
