Chennai: The income tax Department officials found Rs 25 lakh with an AIADMK MP at Chennai airport on Friday. Based on a tip off from the CISF personnel from New Delhi airport, the CISF sleuths intercepted and stopped V. Elumalai, AIADMK MP from Arani constituency at Chennai airport at 8.10 p.m.
Subsequently, the personnel alerted I-T officials, who rushed the place and found that he was carrying Rs 25 lakh in the baggage. When quizzed, Elumalai informed the I-T personnel that he withdrawn the cash from a bank and carrying the money for personal use. In view of Lok Sabha poll and Assembly by-poll in the state the model code of conduct, which came into force in Tamil Nadu from March 10, will come to an end on May 27. Hence, he is subjected to further enquiry.
