Thrissur: The husband and the mother-in-law of a woman who committed suicide after pouring kerosene over her in March at Desamangalam here were arrested on Thursday over charges of abusing the victim demanding dowry.
Rini, mother of two kids, was admitted to the hospital after she suffered severe burn injures on March 3. She died on March 18.
The incident happened at her husband’s place.
Rooby, mother of Rini, had filed a complaint with the Commission that along with a mobile video recording of her daughter stating while lying on the bed during treatment that Saju, 33, a resident of Desamangalam along with his mother-in-law and sister-in-law had poured kerosene over her and set her on fire.
The cops had earlier filed a case of suicide and slapped charges of abetting suicide against Rini’s husband and his relatives.
Crime Branch officials said that in the statement given to cops and to the doctors at the hospital, the victim had not spoken about the matter which she had said in the video footage.
Hence, the phone of the victim’s mother with the video would be verified by the cyber experts, they added.
