Thiruvananthapuram: Youth held for abusing cousin
Thiruvananthapuram: Poonthura police on Thursday arrested a 20-year-old youth on charges of sexually harassing his six-year-old cousin. The police did not reveal his identity as he was a close relative of the survivor.
The accused, an Industrial Trading student of a private institute, had sexually assaulted the daughter of his mother’s sister.
On the basis of the complaint of the parents of the girl, police registered a case on Wednesday and took the accused into custody. The arrest of the accused was recorded on Thursday after the result of the medical examination came. The court remanded the accused in judicial custody. The girl also disposed against the accused before a local magistrate on Thursday.
The parents of the girl who earlier lived in Kozhikode, the home of her father, later entrusted the care of their daughter to her mother’s elder sister residing at Poonthura as the mother was ailing from a disease.
When the mother visited the girl recently, she noticed that her daughter who appeared to be gloomy behaved in a strange manner. It was after repeated queries by the mother that the girl revealed that she was continuously sexual abusing her for the past nine months since August last year, police said. The accused had threatened the girl of dire consequences if she revealed the matter to anyone else.
