Hyderabad: Cops find Rs 27 lakh in car, realtor stakes claim

On inquiry, the passenger Abdulla bin Ali, 42, a resident of the Old city was found carrying Rs 25 lakh cash.

Hyderabad: Unaccounted money worth Rs 25 lakh was seized during a joint operation conducted by the elite commando force OCTOPUS and Rachakonda Police on late Wednesday at LB Nagar Ring Road.

Cops said the operation was part of the preparedness drill involving teams from OCTOPUS and LB Nagar Police, which is being done regularly on frequent intervals at different parts of the city.

During one of their checks, sleuths intercepted a car from Ghatkesar moving towards the Old City. Upon checking the car, they found huge amounts of cash stashed in the vehicle.

On inquiry, the passenger, identified as Abdulla bin Ali, 42, a resident of the Old city was found carrying Rs 25 lakh cash. But since the cash was unaccounted, Cops alerted the Income Tax Department for further inquiry.

On being questioned by the officials, Abdulla said that he received the money from a buyer from the sale proceedings of a part of land at Ghatkesar. Police are trying to identify the owner of the car, which was rented by Abdulla to move the cash from Ghatkesar.
