Hyderabad : Man arrested for selling PDS rice at high price
Hyderabad: Musheerabad Police arrested a 25-year-old auto trolley driver for illegally selling PDS rice at higher rates to customers. The accused is Mohd Sarmad Hussain, 25, a resident of Bholakpur of Musheerabad.
Based on a complaint re-ceived by checking inspe-ctor R. Varadha Raj, a case was registered at the Musheerabad police station. “The accused, Sarm-ad Hussain, is an auto tro-lley driver and his earnings were insufficient to fulfil his family requirements. He planned to ea-rn money by easy means and hence started purchasing PDS rice and tr-ansporting it illegally to Nizamabad,” said the po-lice inspector at Mushee-rabad, S. Ramachander Reddy.
“Since the last few mon-ths, he was purchasing PDS rice from cardholders for Rs 8 per kilo and supplying the same to the needy customers in the open market at Rs12 per kilo,” added the Inspector.
On Tuesday, as he was collecting and transporting PDS rice, he was arrested and his vehicle as also 13.60 quintals of PDS rice from his possession were seized. He is being produced before the court for judicial remand.
