Jilted lover throws acid on teen, booked under POSCO
BENGALURU: Police arrested a youth, identified as Sumanth, a resident of Kurupet in Kanakapura town of Ramanagar district on charges of throwing acid on the face of a 17-year-old girl for unrequited love.
The incident occurred on Friday near Narayanappa lake on Kanakapura bypass road around about 6 pm.
Sumanth, 22, worked in a car garage and the victim was studying in a college. It is said that the victim started to maintain distance from Sumanth which is said to have enraged him leading to the acid attack.
The accused came on a two-wheeler and poured acid on the girl’s face, before fleeing from the scene. The girl is said to have sustained injuries on her face and left eye. She was shifted to a hospital in Bengaluru after initial treatment at a hospital in Kanakapura. Kanakapura town police registered a case and swung into action.
Ramanagar SP Karthik Reddy visited the scene of crime and took details of the health condition of the victim.
Police tracked down Sumanth, who had taken shelter far away from Kanakapura town, and took him to their custody early morning on Saturday. Sumanth has been booked under Prevention of Children from Sexual Offences Act (POSCO).
