Karnataka cops arrest man who cheated engineering college aspirants

The man attracted his quarry by placing ads in newspapers

Bengaluru: The Central Crime Branch (CCB) of the Karnataka police have arrested a man named Sailesh Kothari alias Gauresh Kumar Daga (48) on charges of cheating engineering and medical college aspirants.

The basis of the arrest was the case of a student, Bobesh Bharathi who contacted Kothari for securing a B Tech engineering seat in Bharath University of Chennai.

Sailesh Kothari collected Rs 1.70 lakh from Bharathi and disappeared. The victim had contacted him after seeing the advertisement in a prominent newspaper.

The cops who took up the investigation arrested Kothari in Kolkata and recovered Rs 2 lakh in cash and Rs 10 lakh worth of gold jewels.

Joint commissioner of police (crime) Sandeep Patil stated that the accused gave bogus advertisements in many daily newspapers in India. He also gave his mobile number.

Investigations revealed that he cheated many gullible persons who wanted to join medical and engineering colleges. The investigation is going on.
