Bengaluru: Revenue inspector ends life, corporator blamed

The revenue inspector, H.C. Srinivas, committed suicide when his wife Geetha went to pick up their children from school.

Bengaluru: A 42-year-old BBMP Revenue Inspector hanged himself at his residence in Srinagar in Hanumanthanagar police limits on Monday evening. While it is said that he took the extreme step because he was fed up with frequent transfers, his family members alleged harassment by a corporator.

The revenue inspector, H.C. Srinivas, committed suicide when his wife Geetha went to pick up their children from school. When she returned, she found her husband hanging from the ceiling. The exact reason for the suicide is yet to be ascertained as the deceased has not left any suicide note, the police said.

“Preliminary investigations revealed that Srinivas was working at the J.P. Nagar office and was recently transferred to the Kempegowda Nagar office. Before he assumed the charge, he was reportedly again transferred to the Raja Rajeshwarinagar office. He had not gone to work for the last ten days. We are investigating the case from all angles,” the police said.

But his relatives alleged that harassment by BBMP Sunkenahalli ward corporator D.N. Ramesh drove Srinivas to suicide. Srinivas’ cousin Krishnamurthy said that the corporator did not want Srinivas to take charge at the Kempegowda Nagar office, was harassing him and ensured that he is transferred again. “Srinivas, who was depressed, finally ended his life,” he alleged.

The corporator, however, rubbished the allegations and said that Srinivas was trapped by the Lokayukta and was suspended. “He would have been worried about that case. Also, his transfer to Kempegowda Nagar was not as per the norms so he was transferred again. I have nothing to do with his case,” he said.
