THRISSUR: A former police ‘informer’ has alleged that the Kunnamkulam police were ineffective in tackling the narcotic cases and that they were soft on the mafia gangs in the locality. V.S. Aneesh, autorickshaw driver and president of the CITU auto drivers’ unit, had filed a complaint against Kunnamkulam SI T.P. Farshad to Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on September 30 alleging that the SI had teamed up with the narcotic mafia. The SI summoned Annesh on December 7 and allegedly assaulted him and he was admitted to the taluk hospital adjacent to the police station.
The Thrissur Rural SP is now investigating the matter. “As a police informer, I was a witness in several criminal cases and many criminals are behind bars. The quantity of ganja seized by cops in the station in the last 15 months after the new SI took charge compared to the earlier months will prove my allegations,” Aneesh said. Kunnamkulam town is notorious for the sale of narcotics, including ganja and banned ‘hans’ in large quantities.
Mr Farshad refuted the allegations and said two cases had been registered against Aneesh in the station (for trespassing and assault) and that the police were regularly seizing narcotic substances. It was alleged that Aneesh was once a middle man in settling police cases. Aneesh refuted the allegations and said that he would move legally against those who raised the charges.
