Hyderabad: The parents of a Class IX girl, who committed suicide in October, alleged that she was raped by a person and his friends and that they had threatened the girl that they had recorded the video on their phone. The parents who claimed that cops failed to act on their complaints, approached the SHRC.
Ms Durgamma from R.N. Reddy Nagar in Meerpet who adopted the girl said in her petition that their child K. Harshitha went missing and they had lodged a complaint with Meerpet police. “
The police did not take our complaint for two days and she came back on October 8. When we questioned her, she remained silent and did not reveal anything,” she said.
Later, the girl revealed that she was kidnapped by one Mallesh, who shot her naked videos and pictures and threatened her not to reveal the matter to anyone. They again approached the police for action against Mallesh but there was no response.
Durgamma said that troubled by this, the girl who was sent to her sister-in-law's house In Mahbubnagar district committed suicide by setting herself ablaze. "Later, we came to know through our son's friends that she was having an affair with one Mallesh and he had sexually assaulted her," she said.
She stated that when her son demanded action against Mallesh, police booked him in a false case alleging that he had beaten up Mallesh and arrested him.
Durgamma named Mallesh, Meerpet Inspector N. Rangaswamy and SIs Bhaskar Chary and Raghavendra Goud and sought action against them.
Meanwhile, Meerpet inspector N.Ch.Ranga Swamy said that it was a false complaint. "After the death of the girl her brother and friends abducted M. Mallesh on October 19 and beat him up badly. A case was registered against the accused sent to remand. The family of Harshitha approached us for a compromise and we refused. The girl gave her statement before a judge at Achampet hospital stating that there was no reason for her suicide" he said.
