Kochi: Excise team on druglord's trail
Kochi: The excise team probing the MDMA haul worth Rs. 200 crore has received crucial information about the accused Ali who is suspected to have international connections in the drug market. The probe team is currently in Triplicane, near Chennai, with the accused Prasanth, who was arrested the other day in connection with the case, to collect more evidence on the suspected Malaysian-based drug racket.
"We have traced his (Ali's) complete identity and other details today. We hope he could be arrested soon thereby leading to the origin of the drug," official sources said.
The sleuths had taken the accused Prasanth to Chennai for evidence collection on Sunday, and according to officials, they will be back by Saturday.
Sources said that they had received crucial evidence that may take the case to the next level. However, officials said that they were yet to make any headway in this.
Excise officials said that foreign connection to the case was fast emerging but declined to divulge further details.
Prasanth had sent the contraband, concealed in eight cartons of textile consignment, to Kochi through a private courier service agency at Egmore in Chennai. They were intending to transport the contraband to Malaysia through a private air cargo service in the city. The enforcement and anti-narcotic special squad of the excise department seized the contraband from the courier office on September 29.
