Mentally disturbed person hacks couple to death, villagers kill him as retaliation

ANANTAPUR: A mentally disturbed person hacked a couple to death while they were sleeping in front of their house at Nittur village in Yadiki mandal in Anantapur district in the early hours of Saturday.

The villagers killed the mentally disturbed person in retaliation.

The deceased were identified as Balaraju, 58, and Somakka, 50. The mentally disturbed person was Prasad from Nittur village.

Sources said that Balaraju and Somakka, along with their granddaughter, slept in front of their house on Friday night. Prasad, who was mentally disturbed, reached their house and attacked them with a sickle. Balaraju and Somakka were killed on the spot, while their granddaughter escaped unhurt.

When the villagers heard about the incident, they attacked Prasad by pelting stones. He was beaten to death.

The police have registered a case and are investigating the incident.
