Hyderabad: Suspected thieves on Sunday morning used a dynamite to blow up the Basaweshwara idol in a historic temple near Marikal village in Nawabpet mandal of Mahabubnagar. Police suspect that the men, who are reportedly absconding, were expecting to find a treasure beneath the statue.
The local residents informed police. “The perpetrators fled the spot soon after the explosion, finding that there was no treasure under the idol to loot. They used a dynamite to blow up the statue. The temple is a historical monument,” said the police, adding that a case has been registered.
