Hyderabad: Couple killed over property row

Two of the accused have been arrested while another suspect is still at large.

Hyderabad: Two siblings with the help of another, allegedly killed their elder brother and his wife at Tandur town, reportedly over property disputes. Two of the accused have been arrested while another suspect is still at large.

Police identified the victims as Abdul Sattar, 48, an autorickshaw driver, and his wife Unnisa Begum, 35, residents of Seetharampet in Tandur. Sattar’s younger brothers Shareef and Ghouse stayed in the same neighbourhood.

Police said the brothers had disputes over the sharing of property. Sattar was keen on selling one of the three portions of their ancestral house to organise finance for his daughter's marriage, while his brothers were reluctant to do.

Tandur Town inspector Pratap Lingam said that Sattar sold one of the portions to a person for Rs 8 lakh and took Rs 3 lakh as advance. His brothers took up the issue with community leaders as they did not want the property to go outside the family. But the matter was not resolved.

“At about 8 pm on Saturday, Sattar and his wife went to their house on some work where the three siblings had arguments. Shareef and Ghouse picked up boulders lying outside the house and hit Sattar and Begum on the head and that killed the couple,” said the inspector.

He said that based on the complaint of Ms Rafia Begum, daughter of the couple, a murder case had been registered. Two suspects had been taken into custody, while teams are searching for another absconding person, who was reportedly involved in the murder.

The bodies of the couple were handed over after the postmortem at a government hospital on Sunday, the inspector said.
