Hyderabad: 141 jailed for cellphone driving
Hyderabad: As many as 141 persons were jailed for cell phone driving till now this year. Hyderabad traffic police conducted special drives against cell phone driving booked cases on 951 offenders. One person was jailed for four days and 96 members were jailed for two days.
Anil Kumar, Additional Commissioner of police (traffic) said, “We are doing our best to curb the menace of cell phone driving in the city. We are continuously conducting the drives and booking cases on the people with evidence who were talking under Section 184 of Motor vehicle act.”
Ahsan Pasha Traffic Sense Hyderabad, said, “The problem from the cell phone driving apart from the normal driver’s nowadays we have these taxi companies namely Ola and Uber they are constantly on the phone when they are driving so this should be minimised. By using the cell phone while driving they are putting the passengers life at dangers. The way we are depending on mobile we can’t really stop that but we should try and curb the way they use it.”
Pasha added that stopping the car every time the phone rings is detrimental to the life and is also detrimental to the safety of other people on the road.
If you got a call while driving the car many drivers take sharp turns to stop the vehicle that is very dangerous.
It is more dangerous for the bikers to use the phone rather than cars. If you try to dial out the number looking at the phone that is dangerous nowadays lot of phone can be dialed without saying. However texting while driving should be strictly stopped added Pasha.
Pash opined that most of the laws were made to make money but they are not practically applicable.
