Karnataka: Dandupalya gang Three get 10-year jail term

The court sentenced Dodda Hanuma, Venkatesh and Nalla Thimma, to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment on charges of robbery.

Bengaluru: The Karnataka High Court on Wednesday convicted three members of the notorious Dandupalya gang in a Mysore robbery case. The court sentenced Dodda Hanuma, Venkatesh and Nalla Thimma, to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment on charges of robbery.

The prosecution had approached the high court seeking to confirm the lower court's order sentencing them to death in the murder of one Susheelamma in Mysuru. However, the high court quashed the death sentence for lack of witnesses and evidence, and convicted them for committing the offence of robbery.

The Mysuru police had registered the case of murder and robbery in November 2000. They were charged with murder of one Susheelamma and had later committed robbery. The high court quashed the death sentence while citing that there were no concrete evidence to show that the three committed the murder. We, the jewelleries recovered from them were identified by the victim's relative and thus they are convinced for robbery. The high court has also imposed Rs 10,000 as fine along with 10 years of rigorous imprisonment.
