Kochi: Sexton held for abuse of girl

Her parents observed a change in her behaviour and she finally revealed her ordeal when pursued.

Kochi: A sexton was arrested on Tuesday for allegedly sexually abusing an altar girl in Kumbalangi.

The accused Paul Veliparambil, who was the sexton of Kumbalangi St Joseph Church, had gone into hiding since two weeks back. According police, the incident happened in March 14.

"The victim didn't divulge the incident at first out of fear. Her parents observed a change in her behaviour and she finally revealed her ordeal when pursued. They informed the church authorities two week back when the accused went into hiding," police said.

The cops arrested Paul from his hide out at Pazhangad in Kumbalangi. He was produced before a local court which remanded him into judicial custody.
