Chennai: Eight men surrender in petrol bunk attack case

According to police, at around 10 pm, Mani of Nedungundram and his friends came to fill petrol at the bunk.

Chennai: Eight men accused of brandished long knives and attacking petrol pump attendants and customers at a petrol bunk in Alapakkam on Sunday surrendered before a metropolitan magistrate court, George Town, on Tuesday.

A special team was formed by the Peerkankaranai police to nab the accused after a video of the incident went viral on social media. The shocking visuals of the incident showed a group of men brandishing long knives and sickles at the staff of a petrol pump in Alapakam near Tambaram on Sunday night.

According to police, at around 10 pm, Mani of Nedungundram and his friends came to fill petrol at the bunk. An argument broke between Mani and Ilavarasan, a staffer of the pump, who allegedly did not pay heed to their requests.

Mani and his friends began attacking Ilavarasan when the other staff at the pump came to the rescue of Ilavarasan. While Mani fled the scene, the staff detained two of his friends.

However, an hour later, Mani returned with an eight-member gang with machetes and knives and attacked the staffs and the customers present at the bunk.

The staff and two other customers were admitted to a private hospital. Based on a complaint lodged by the owner, Peerkankaranai police registered a case against the group and formed a special team to nab them.

Meanwhile, on Tuesday morning, the Eight men, Mani( 28) of Nedungundram, Charu Hassan(26) , Sathish( 25) of Irumbuliyur, Karthikeyan(25) of Perungalathur, Abilash(25) , Venkatesan(26),Ajith (25) and Jeyaraman(25) of Tambaram , surrendered before the George town court.

They were handed over to the Peerkankarani police who are questioning them.
