Bengaluru: Two days after a newborn girl child was kidnapped from Vani Vilas Hospital, the city police nabbed a 24-year-old woman in this connection and the baby was reunited with her parents. The culprit, identified as Devi Bai, a resident of Bhovi colony, was nabbed following tip off from her neighbours.
According to the police, the Devi Bai, a housewife, did not have children and wanted to adopt one. However, during a visit to Vani Vilas hospital she happened to meet Heena Devi, the grandmother of the baby girl.
After few minutes of friendly conversation, Heena left the baby with Devi Bai and went to the restroom. Taking advantage of the situation, Devi Bai fled with the baby and reached home.
On Friday, the news of newborn baby girl getting stolen spread in the city and Devi Bai’s neighbours grew suspicious. When they questioned her about the baby, she tried to misguide them by stating that she belonged to one of her relatives.

Soon the police informed their Victoria Hospital counterparts, who rushed to the spot and confirmed the identity of the baby. The family also recognised the baby and the accused. Later Devi Bai was arrested, produced before a magistrate and remanded to judicial custody.
