Youth, two law students arrested for selling drugs in Udupi

Mangaluru/Udupi: Continuing their crackdown on drug trafficking, police officials in Mangaluru and Udupi have arrested individuals who were allegedly trying to sell methylenedioxy methamphetamine (MDMA), a banned substance.

The Mangaluru CCB police, led by ACP PA Hegde, received credible information about the storage and distribution of MDMA near a house in Bagambila, Deralakatte.

Acting on the tipoff, the police arrested Akshat Kumar (34) and seized 72 grams of MDMA drugs valued at Rs 3,66,000. Mobile phone, cash amounting to Rs. 20,880, and a digital weighing scale have also been seized.

A case has been registered against the accused at the Ullal police station. In Udupi District, a special team, led by Manipal Police Inspector Devaraj, apprehended two law students attempting to sell methamphetamine near an apartment in Ishwar Nagar within the jurisdiction of the Manipal police station.

The suspects, Nibhish (23) and Amal (22), both law students hailing from Kerala, were taken into custody. The police seized 7.3 grams of MDMA worth Rs 35,000. The authorities seized MDMA and confiscated a bike and two mobile phones.

Another individual involved, identified as Afsin, managed to escape. It may be recollected that Home Minister G Parameshwar during his visit to the coastal districts on June 6 had directed the police officials to take strict measures to end the menace of drugs in the region. He had asked the officials to take appropriate action against the drug peddlers and also purchasers.
