6 inter-state peddlers arrested in Hyderabad, ganja worth Rs 10L seized

Hyderabad: Six inter-state ganja peddlers, including a woman, were arrested by police from NH 65 road in Kothapalli mandal in Nalgonda district on Tuesday. Police seized 103 kg of the contraband worth Rs 10 lakh from their possession.

Acting on a tip-off, sleuths intercepted a bus at Katepalli and arrested Ashok Tarafdar, Pijush Biswas, Dhanujay Biswas Abijit Tarafdar, Shikha Biswas, Fani Tarafdar all native of Malkangiri, Odisha, and Rampada Tarafdar, Jeevan Singh Yadav of Madhya Pradesh while they were transporting the banned substance from Odisha to the city via Nalgonda district. “When they were stopped at Katepalli crossroads, they tried to escape but were caught,” Nalgonda SP K. Apoorva Rao said.

On interrogation, the accused confessed that they were peddling ganja to customers in Hyderabad and Madhya Pradesh. “They procured 103 kg of ganja for Rs 3,000 a kg from Mangalgiri in Odisha and were planning to sell the same between Rs 18,000 and Rs 20,000 to clients,” Apoorva said adding that they concealed 43 ganja packets in bus seats. The prime accused were about to contact ganja dealers Vivek and Vinay in Hyderabad and through them wanted to smuggle in the city and MP, police said. The accused along with the seized property were produced in court. They were remanded in judicial custody.
