Thiruvananthapuram: Man hacks wife to death after quarrel, held
Thiruvananthapuram: A man hacked his wife to death following a domestic quarrel at Karakulam near Nedumangad on Wednesday night. The accused, Sajeev Kumar, slashed the throat of his wife Smitha, 38, of Mullasserry near Karakulam, around 11 p.m. and she died on the spot.
Sajeev, a carpenter, is an alcoholic and used to physically abuse her, said neighbours. The police said Smitha, an employee of a medical shop at Nedumangad, had a fight with her husband after she came home from the shop at 8 p.m. She ran away from the home after the fight and returned only at 11 p.m. Sajeev, in a fit of rage, hacked her on the neck and stabbed her on her back when she fell down. Though their two daughters, his mother and brother were at home, none dared to intervene fearing his attack.
A police team led by Nedumangad circle inspector, which reached the spot on being alerted, took him into custody. The two daughters, Parvathy and Bhadra, are school students. The woman’s body was shifted to the mortuary of the Medical College Hospital after inquest.
