Coimbatore: Youth kills friend in street brawl

Coimbatore: A 28-year-old youth was stoned to death by his friend over a quarrel in a drunken brawl near Sinaganallur in the suburbs of the city.

According to police, Suppan, a native of Mysore in Karnataka, was staying in his brother's house near Sinaganallur.

On Wednesday, Suppan reportedly went out to meet his friend and did not return home even after a long time. His body was later found lying near Singanallur bus stand during the early hours of Thursday, with his head smashed with a stone. The body was sent to Coimbatore Medical College Hospital (CMCH) for postmortem.

Singanallur police registered a complaint and started investigation. In a swift action, verifying CCTV camera footages installed in the bus stand, special sub-inspector Gunasekaran and a team arrested Sakthivel (27), a resident of Varatharajapuram Chettiyar Street.

During questioning, he admitted to the crime of murdering Suppan in a drunken brawl following a heated quarrel. He was produced before the court and imprisoned at the Coimbatore central prison.
