Hyderabad: Man succumbs to injuries sustained while playing
Hyderabad: A 20-year-old youth who sustained grievous head injuries while playing cricket on Mir Alam Idgah ground two days back with his friends succumbed to the injuries on Tuesday while undergoing treatment at a hospital. Md. Wajid was hit with a bat held by another player while trying to take a catch. He was rushed to the hospital by his relatives. The doctors declared him dead on Tuesday morning.
Wajid’s father, Mohammed Abdul Sattar, alleged that his son was murdered by his friends. Bahadurpura police, however, said that they have not found any evidence to support such allegations.
The police have registered a case against his friends for culpable homicide and started an investigation
“On Sunday several teams were playing on the ground. Eyewitnesses said that Wajid was running to take a catch when he neared another group. The batsman from another team was swinging his bat to strike the ball. The bat landed on Wajid’s forehead causing a serious injury,” said Bahadurpura police station inspector T Laxminarayana.
“He fell down unconscious and was taken to a hospital,” the Inspector added.
After the accident, all his friends disappeared from the scene fearing a backlash from the locals. “We are trying to trace them for grilling on the matter,” the Inspector said.
Wajid’s father alleged that his friends had called Wajid over the phone on Sunday while he was sitting at home. He alleged that they must have beaten him with sticks and bats for some reason and killed him. Police officials said that they are investigating the incident from every possible angle.
