Kannur: The two CPM workers, who were arrested on Monday in connection with the murder of RSS leader C. Biju were produced before Payyannur judicial first class magistrate court and remanded in judicial custody for 14 days. The police would move a petition for their custody on Wednesday.
The accused Rinesh 28, Naduvile Pura, Kakkampara, Ramanthali, and Jyothish 26, Kunduvalappil, Ramanthali, were friends of CPM worker C.V. Dhanaraj who was killed in July last year. Biju was the 12th accused in the case. The police on Sunday had seized the car used by Biju’s killers on the day of the attack.
The accused were arrested based on the statements of Pandaravalappil Rajesh, who was riding with Biju at the time of the attack. He is the seventh accused in the Dhanaraj case.
The office of Mr Vijayakumar, vice-president, Lawyers Union (affiliated to the CPM) moved the petition for the accused. It may be recalled that CPM state secretary Kodiyeri Balakrishnan had said that the party would not protect criminals.
