Hyderabad: RTC driver fined for jumping signal
Hyderabad: Jeedimetla traffic police issued a challan against a Road Transport Corporation (RTC) driver for jumping the signal near Quthbullapur on Tuesday.
This is not the first time an RTC bus driver was caught for signal jumping, drunken driving or cell-phone driving, said Jeedimetla police officials.
RTC driver Guguldi Raju, 45, a resident of Natrajnagar, already has nine pending challans against him for signal jumping and a fine of Rs 5,915 is due from him.
He was fined Rs 1,000 for signal jumping on Tuesday.
Traffic police said that even after the police asked to stop the bus he did not stop at the signal.
Passengers in the bus were shocked by the dangerous behaviour of the driver.
Jeedimetla traffic sub-inspector Srinivas Rao said, “We are tired of RTC bus drivers as they top in violating traffic rules whether it is signal jumping or cell phone driving. As they easily escape punishments they ignore traffic rules. RTC drivers should be properly counselled by RTC officials about the dangers of violating traffic laws. What if they hit another vehicle while jumping signals. They carry a large number of passengers in their buses. How can they ignore towards traffic rules?”
