Bengaluru: Man held for suicide of girlfriend's parents
BENGALURU: Two days after the parents of a 22-year- old girl committed suicide by consuming poison after she eloped, the Doddabelavangala police on Monday arrested her boyfriend on charges of abetment to suicide.
The accused, Sridhar Gowda, was arrested when he came along with his girlfriend Rashmi to attend the funeral of her parents. Her mother Sujatha (42) died on Saturday, while her father Manichandra (48) passed away on Sunday at a government hospital.
On Monday morning, Rashmi and Sridhar came to the house, but relatives and local residents protested saying they did not want the couple to be there. The police gave protection while they visited the house, and Sridhar was arrested later in the evening.
Manichandra and Sujatha, who were from Hosakote, were staying in Peenya. They learnt about Rashmi’s affair a year ago and were opposed to it. On her birthday on May 13, Rashmi left the house, saying she was going with her friends to Mantri Mall to celebrate, but did not return home.
When the parents learnt that she had eloped, they filed a missing complaint at the Peenya police station. When the night-long search didn’t yield result, Sujatha and Manichandra consumed poison, the police said.
