Hyderabad: Girl files plaint against father

The girl informed the Child Line that she was assaulted 3 years ago by her father.

Hyderabad: A 16-year-old girl from the city approached Child Line to complain that her father had sexually assaulted her. The Child Line officials lodged a complaint on behalf of the victim with the Rajendranagar police, who have registered a case and taken up the investigation.

According to the police, the incident, which reportedly took place three years ago, came to light only after the girl contacted Child Line and informed them about the alleged assault by her father, who works as a watchman at an apartment.

The accused Venkateshwarlu, 45, had separated from his first wife but continued to look after their daughter. He went on to marry another woman, from whom he now has two children, and the resultant five members of his family now live in a rented apartment in Rajendranagar.

After appearing for her Class X exams, which concluded only recently, the victim visited her mother, who now lives in another town. She returned to her father’s house on Monday and complained to the Child Line officials alleging sexual assault by her father, said the police.

Rajendranagar inspector G. Suresh said, “The girl told the Child Line that her father had sexually assaulted her three years ago, while they were living in Nalgonda. Based on this information, the District Child Protection Unit officials lodged a complaint on behalf of the victim, and a case under the POCSO (Protection of Children from Sexual Offences) Act has been registered for the probe.”

He said that the victim’s statement has been noted down and that she will be sent for a medical examination. “The investigation has been taken up, and the accused will be questioned in connection with the allegations.” said the inspector.
