Hyderabad: A civil engineer working at a private company in the city was arrested for extorting Rs 4,00,000 from a married woman while blackmailing to upload her private pictures on social media.
“The accused claimed to be an anesthetist and developed a friendship with the woman through a dating app,” said the Cyberabad cyber crime police, who arrested him on Tuesday.
According to the police, the accused, Gollaladoddi Abdullah, worked as a civil engineer in a company at Kukatpally and is a native of Kurnool district in Andhra Pradesh.
About 15 days ago, a woman from the city lodged a complaint against Abdullah, who claimed that he was Dr G. Karthik Reddy, an anesthetist working at a hospital in the city. She had met Abdullah on a dating app called Tinder.
During their conversations, he collected personal details and private photographs of her and later demanded sexual favours. When she refused to give in, he threatened to upload her pictures on social media. Later, he extorted Rs 4,00,000. Based on the complaint, Abdullah was apprehended at his house in Manikonda on Monday by the cyber crime police.
