Injured at 18 spots, intestine almost severed, says S R Sreejith post-mortem report

No external injury was noted on the genitals.

Kochi: A blunt trauma (caused due to physical attack) sustained to the abdomen and its complications such as multi-organ failure resulted in the death of S.R. Sreejith, 26, of Varappuzha, following custodial torture, according to the post- mortem report accessed by the DC. The autopsy, performed by a team headed by police surgeon Zachariah Thomas at the Alappuzha Medical College on April 10, also identified 18 ante-mortem injuries, including contusions at the root of the nose, on both arms and on the left side of the lower abdomen.

No external injury was noted on the genitals. However, his testicles had reported blood infiltration while his small intestine was on the verge of severing. A video footage of the examination has been prepared and would be dispatched to the National Human Rights Commission in New Delhi. As per records, Sreejith was admitted to a private hospital at Cheranellore on April 8 with complaints of abdominal pain and distension.

An examination revealed that the patient was “restless and hypotensive while his abdomen was tense and distended.” A CT scan later revealed free fluid in the abdomen and small bowel mesentery contusions, among other things. “Food particles got deposited due to injury in the small intestine which was on the verge of severing. The hospital had conducted a surgery,” sources said.
