KAKINADA: Annavaram police arrested nine persons and seized from them 32 kilos of ganja worth ₹1.12 lakh.
On a tip-off, police raided the houses of certain persons in Mandapam and Gopalapatnam villages and found ganja. In addition to the ganja, police seized 10 bags of sawdust, six mobile phones and two bikes.
Peddapuram DSP S. Murali Mohan said the accused had been illegally selling ganja, while also cheating the ganja consumers.
The accused showed real ganja packets to consumers. However, they handed over only packets of ganja mixed with sawdust.
The DSP said two of the accused – Kalla Siva alias Shaik Jameel of Pydipala village in Rowthulapudi mandal and Nayudu of Vattigadda village in Rajavommangi mandal, are absconding.
Annavaram police have registered a case.
