Hyderabad police on hunt for 9 gold heist accused

The gang did not use mobile phones to avoid nailing evidence against them.

HYDERABAD: The main kingpin of the Petlaburj gold heist, Amjad Khwaja Ameen Shaik, 41, owns several properties and three cars in Mumbai and Thane, investigations have revealed.

Amjad along with nine others were involved in the sensational dacoity at a gold workshop in Petlaburj in Charminar on March 6. While the main kingpin was nabbed, the remaining are still at large.

“During the investigation, we found that the gang diverted the attention of the police. At times, they would reveal the names of the gang members who are lodged in prisons and say they are absconding. They are backed by a powerful legal team to bail them out,” informed an official.

While the police managed to get the kingpin, they are still enquiring about how the gang managed to know about the jewellery unit in Hyderabad. Suspicion remains that they came to know about it from some workers who worked in the Mumbai jewellery shop owned by the workshop owner.

“Throughout the journey from Mumbai to Hyderabad and back, the gang did not use mobile phones to avoid nailing evidence against them. They took several precautions to avoid to leaving clues,” the official pointed out.

Meanwhile, three teams of the Task Force and local police are searching for the nine gang members who are absconding.
