Hyderabad mother kills minor daughters, claims she 'liberated' them

The mother suspected that her husband was sexually abusing their 8-year-old daughter.

Hyderabad: Two minor girls — eight-year-old Ashvitha and three-year-old Tavishka — were allegedly killed by their mother in Hyderabad on Wednesday evening after she suspected that her husband was sexually abusing her elder daughter. The mother has been taken into custody, said the police.

Rajani, a housewife, broke a glass bottle and slit throats of her two daughters, at her residence in Teacher's Colony, Tukaramgate Police Station Inspector T Laxmi Narayana said.

The father Vinay Chukte got to know of the horrific incident when he returned home from work from Begumpet. The bodies of the girls were found under the bed and in the bathroom. The mother was nowhere to be seen.

Chukte immediately called the police. The police went on a hunt and found the woman near the Hussainsagar Lake. Suicide could have been on her mind, cops said.

The woman was taken into custody and when asked what spurred her to kill her own daughters, she said they were being abused by the father.

"I am sad they are dead but I have liberated them," Rajini had said, according to witnesses.

"The woman became suspicious after seeing that her elder daughter used to get scared on seeing her father. She had a feeling that her husband sexually harassed their elder daughter. She has confessed to killing the two children," the police said.

After preliminary investigation and questioning of the accused's husband, the officer said there is no evidence as of now to prove the allegations leveled against him.

A case was booked under section 302 (murder) of IPC and further probe is on.
