Caught on camera: Survey department staff fight for cash
COIMBATORE: In a shocking incident, two staff members of the State Land Survey department were caught on camera fighting at the Coimbatore collectorate on Thursday. Eyewitnesses said the fight was over ‘dividing the bribe’ collected from landowners, in the wake of a land survey done recently. In the video, one field surveyor is seen raining blows on his assistant surveyor, amid pushing, pulling and jostling. Members of public are seen trying to stop their fight, but found it virtually impossible to separate the two pugilists.
Eyewitnesses said that the assistant surveyor allegedly collected money as bribe from a landowner of Chettipalayam area to survey his land. But later, the assistant surveyor allegedly failed to share the amount with the field surveyor. Eyewitnesses said the assistant surveyor was trying to take the money that the surveyor wanted to share with the former, leading to the fight. Meanwhile, this tussle caught on camera went viral on WhatsApp. The collector T.N. Hariharn has ordered a departmental enquiry into the incident, which took place at the collectorate premises.
When contacted the collector’s personal assistant, said, “the collector is not willing to comment on the issue. But he ordered a departmental enquiry lead by the P.A. to the Collector (General) against the staff involved in violence at the Collectorate premises.”
