Hizbul sleeper cell unearthed in J&K's Bandipore; 4 arrested

Weapons were recovered from the accused who were allegedly planning to carry a terror attack.

Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir police on Wednesday said it has arrested four persons for their alleged links with a sleeper cell of Hizb-ul-Mujahideen outfit and claimed that they were planning an attack in northern district of Bandipore.

A module of four Over Ground Workers (OGWs) has been busted in Bandipore and all the four have been arrested, a statement issued by police here said. It identified them as Muzzamil Afzal Rather alias Boya, Firdous Ahmed Rather, Bilal Ahmed Rather and Abdul Majeed Khan “who were planning to execute some terror acts in area”.

Police claimed that Muzamil and Firdous were desperate to join militancy for last six months and eventually received a weapon from Bilal who had obtained it from Khan some six months ago. “They (Muzamil, Firdous and Bilal) were hatching conspiracy to kill some prominent persons from their adjoining areas,” the police statement alleged adding that for this purpose Bilal had arranged also a pistol with ammunition and a hand grenade for Muzamil and Firdous.

“However, due to prompt and timely action of police, the nefarious terror plot hatched by these persons was foiled and all accused have been arrested,” it said adding that the weapons and ammunition were recovered from the accused.

Bandipore’s SSP Shabir Ahmed earlier claimed that the accused were planning to target people who served in the security forces or police forces.
