Kerala moral policing case: Injured youth in critical condition
Thrissur: The man who was beaten up by a group of men in an alleged moral policing incident at Menon Bazar in Azhikode near Kodungallur on Saturday night was shifted to Medical Trust Hospital in Ernakulam late at night on Sunday after his condition worsened.
The victim Paliparambi Salam, 47, was beaten up after he came to a house to meet a woman in the locality. Her husband, Babu, and four others residing in the area have been accused in the case.
Kodugallur SI E R Shaji said that all the accused and the woman were missing and that it was a suspected case of moral policing as per the statement of Salam.
Salam told the police that Babu invited him to his house. But when he went there, Babu along with four others beat him up. As Babu’s wife is absconding, the police are yet to take her statement.
The local people told police that they did not know the attackers but police has deduced from Salam’s statement that they were residing in the locality.
Salam was stripped and beaten. The video and photographs of the attack were captured and circulated in the social media by those who assaulted him. The police reached the spot after being informed and took Salam to Kodungallur Taluk Hospital.
