Solar scam: 3-year imprisonment for accused Saritha, Biju Radhakrishanan
Kochi: A court in Kerala today awarded three-year imprisonment to two accused in the solar panel scam, Biju Radhakrishanan and Saritha S Nair, in a cheating case.
It also imposed a fine of Rs 10,000 on each on them. The judgement was delivered by the judicial magistrate, Perumbavoor, in a case filed by K M Sajid who was cheated by the duo by taking Rs 40 lakh from him assuring him that a solar panel system would be established for him in Tamil Nadu and in the neighbourhood of his house in Kerala.
The court, however, set free three other accused in the case including Malayalam film-TV actress Salu Menon, her mother Kaladevi and one Manikandan from Kodungalloor.
Police had launched an investigation against Saritha and Biju Radhakrishnan based on the complaint filed by Sajid in February 2013, accusing them of cheating him of lakhs of rupees.
The solar panel scam had rocked Kerala after the arrest of Saritha and her partner Biju Radhakrishnan. They allegedly cheated businessmen and NRIs from the state, by convincing them that they had high-level connections including with then Chief Minister Oommen Chandy and his office.
The scam is being probed by a judicial commission set up by the previous Congress-led UDF government. The solar panel scam pertains to alleged duping of several persons to the tune of crores of rupees by Saritha and Biju Radhakrishnan by offering solar panel solutions.
